World Travel Market” is a business travel event that takes place on an annual basis in London, UK. The history of WTM stretches back to 1980 when it first opened its doors to the global travel and tourism industry. Since then it has been creating positive partnerships and bridging the gap between international companies across the world. According to official statistics from the “Travel Weekly” magazine, this year’s show is expected to exceed the number of visitors that it gathered last year accumulating 45,000 company representatives and travel professionals from 202 countries.

This year’s show is in fact its 30th anniversary. Throughout the past 29 years a total number of approximately one million participants have passed through the “World Travel Market” doors. The number of visitors is growing constantly, which is evident by the records indicating 50,000 people attendance last year (2008), which represents a 4% growth over the previous year.

Apart from the traditional presentations that occur at the “WTM”, this year’s program will also feature seminars and debates regarding the worlds’ economic downturn and its impact on the travel and hospitality industry addressing questions as for how to cope with the emerging problems surrounding the tourism sector.

In addition, the “WTM” prompts companies taking part in the event to monitor, analyze and improve the methods by which they control the tourism in order to maintain and maximize its positive projections on the business environment. In this respect, the “World Travel Market” provides contribution to the emerging issue of sustaining growth and to a (certain extent) limiting growth to optimize tourism projections.

Finally, the “World Travel Market 2009” trade show reveals the innovations of the evolving tourism business models. It exposes the international dimensions of tourism specialization as related to economic growth. In this respect, such a massive event incorporates creation of positive business relationships that can lead to considerable improvement of travel services that can diminish the emerging downturn of the tourism sector.

Medica 2009 – 40 years of Medica

medica 2009Medica” is a medical trade show that takes place every year in Dusseldorf, Germany. It represents one of the biggest and most lucid events of this type worldwide. It uses over 120 thousand square meters of exhibiting space with a constantly increasing number of companies inclined to be represented at the trade show. Given the reputation of “Medica”, it exemplifies a unique opportunity for companies to market their products and consequently – broadcast their message to a huge target audience, which on the other hand, increases the potential for revenue increments.

As a matter of fact, “Medica” acts as an umbrella for companies in the pharmaceutical industry from all over the world. Alternatively, German companies are prominent representatives of the latter trade show provided the country’s robust reputation in view of premium medical instrument manufacturing and strongly reinforced by the status of the “Mini Silicon Valley” in Tuttlingen in the southern part of the country. Regardless of the fact that Germany leads in terms of number of exhibits, “Medica” still features intense competition with medical companies representing over 65 nations.

Practically, “Medica 2009” currently aims at providing participating companies with the opportunity to conduct “field research” in order to be able to scrutinize the current trends on the pharmaceutical market and by virtue of this – patronize activities that will improve their businesses and eventually – develop the industry in general. As most companies indicate, the exhibition contributes a lot to the research and development function of their businesses and supports international sales expansion given the number of multinational companies taking part in “Medica”.

Viewed from another perspective, the pure statistics indicating the number of visitors, exhibitors, exhibiting space, etc. are far behind the scope of what appears to be the most interesting upshot of the event – it is the cultural differences between North American trade shows and their European counterpart versions. Furthermore, as explicated by “Business week”, with the continuous growth of the pharmaceutical industry, massive medical events such as “Medica” and some other major US exhibitions reinforce the development of the latter industry and contribute enormously to offset the general world economic slowdown, which has also hampered Pharma companies.
