Based on the number of represented publishing companies, the Frankfurt Book Fair is considered the world’s largest and most anticipated trade fair for books. The fair dates back to the 15th century and it was first held by local booksellers, not long after the invention of the movable type printing process in Mainz.

Why should one participate in the Frankfurt Book Fair 2009? Well, 7,300 exhibitors and about 186,000 trade visitors back in 2008 alone should give businessmen in the book publishing industry enough motivation to take part in the trade fair. Over the last 60 years the event has become a game changer for participating companies.

During a recap of 2008′s edition of the event, the book fair’s director, Juergen Boos, stated:

“If our exhibitors, if our visitors are happy, then we are happy.”

It seems that the event organizers at Messe Frankfurt are moving forward, year after year by having the right attitude and goals.

Having a guest of honor is a long time tradition of the Frankfurt Book Fair. Last year, the spotlights focused on Turkey and its diversed traditions in literature. Turkey raised the bar for this year’s guest of honor – China. The Chinese book market is one of the strongest growing marketing worldwide and many surprises are expected in this years edition of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
